Frequently Asked Questions View all FAQs
How do you order the correct replacement parts?

Before ordering replacement parts, make sure you have the fan model and serial number.

Where can I find instructions to wire a motor on my fan?

The nameplate of the motor includes a wiring diagram. Wiring diagrams can also be found beneath the motor image in our Buy Parts section. Simply click the wiring diagram icon to view it.

Can I install a thermostat?

Yes, but only if the thermostat has a simple on/off operation. Please note: if the thermostat varies the amount of voltage delivered, it will damage the motor and void the warranty.

Can I install my whole house fan vertically?

Comfort Cooler (CC) series whole-house fans may be mounted vertically, however, the AS and CSS shutters will not function properly in the vertical position. We do not carry a ceiling shutter for vertical installation. Vertical installation instructions.

The GPX General Purpose Direct-Drive Exhaust fan delivers reliable, continuous air movement for workshops, barns, greenhouses, and garages. Designed as a complete “out-of-the-box” ventilation solution, the GPX combines a heavy-duty exhaust fan, a spiral wound safety guard, an integrated automatic shutter and a built-in mounting flange for rapid installation.

Available in blade diameters ranging from 12 to 30 inches, the GPX Series is engineered for simplicity and durability. The direct-drive design couples the blade directly to the motor, eliminating belts and pulleys for a maintenance-free lifespan. Each unit features a heavy-gauge galvanized steel frame to resist rust and corrosion. The 115-volt Totally Enclosed Air Over (TEAO) motor is thermally protected to ensure safety during continuous operation.

We generally keep the GPX Series in stock for quick shipment, ensuring you get the ventilation you need without long lead times. The unit ships fully assembled, factory tested and ready to install, featuring a shutter system that operates purely on airflow, opening instantly when the fan starts and closing via gravity when powered down.

Simple “Slide-In” Installation Every GPX features an integrated exterior mounting flange. To install, simply cut and frame your opening, slide the unit in from the outside, and fasten the flange directly to your structure. Once secured, just wire it up, no complex disassembly or mounting brackets required.

Low-Maintenance Direct Drive The propeller mounts directly to the motor shaft, eliminating the need for belts, sheaves, or tension adjustments. This rigid coupling reduces vibration and maintenance, ensuring the fan runs smoothly for years without routine mechanical upkeep.

Air-operated automatic shutter The built-in shutter features rigid blades that open and close automatically when the fan is turned on and off. This system utilizes the force of the airflow to open the blades and gravity to close them, eliminating the need for motorized actuators or complex wiring.

Generally in stock & ready to ship We understand that when you need air movement, you need it fast. The GPX Series is generally kept in stock to ensure quick turnaround times.

Ships fully assembled Every GPX unit leaves the factory fully assembled, making it “ready to install” immediately upon arrival. This streamlined design simplifies the setup process for homeowners, contractors and facility owners alike.

Rugged galvanized construction The fan frame is fabricated from heavy-gauge galvanized steel, specifically designed to reduce rust and corrosion in tough environments like barns and greenhouses.

Reliable motor performance Powered by a 115-volt Totally Enclosed Air Over (TEAO) motor, the GPX is thermally protected to prevent overheating, ensuring safe, continuous operation even in demanding conditions.

OSHA-compliant safety The unit features a spiral wire guard with a durable polyester powder-coat finish that meets OSHA requirements, keeping personnel safe while allowing maximum airflow.

  • Guard: Spiral guard with polyester powder coat finish
  • Shutter: Built-in with rigid blades. Air-opened/Gravity-closed mechanism.
  • Mounting: Integrated exterior mounting flange for flush mounting.

Operating Range

  • Temperature Control: Compatible with optional thermostat control (Sold Separately). Range: up to 110°F ambient.

The GPX Series provides a straightforward solution for general ventilation, helping facilities control condensation, remove stagnant air, and maintain comfortable internal temperatures.

  • Workshops & Garages: Exhausts fumes, dust, and summer heat to keep workspaces breathable and comfortable.

  • Barns & Poultry Houses: Provides critical air movement to maintain animal health and remove moisture.

  • Greenhouses: Controls humidity levels and condensation to protect plant health and optimize growth environments.

  • General Warehousing: Cycles out stagnant air in storage areas where simple, continuous air movement is required.

No Belts, No Hassle The direct-drive motor removes the most common failure point in exhaust fans: the belt. You never have to worry about replacing slipped, broken, or worn-out belts, making the GPX truly “set it and forget it.”

Fast, Easy Installation The integrated mounting flange design turns a complex job into a simple task. By sliding the unit in from the outside and fastening it directly to the wall, you eliminate the need to disassemble the fan or juggle loose mounting hardware.

Simple, Non-Motorized Shutter Operation By utilizing the physics of airflow and gravity, the GPX shutter opens and closes automatically without the need for additional motors or wiring. This means fewer points of failure and easier installation.

Built for Harsh Environments From the heavy-gauge galvanized frame to the powder-coated guard, the GPX is built to withstand the moisture and grime often found in agricultural and workshop settings.

Fast Availability Because we generally keep these units in stock, you can get your project moving quickly without long manufacturing lead times.

All GPX Series direct-drive general purpose exhaust fans are proudly manufactured in the USA with a blend of domestic and foreign components, reflecting our commitment to quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.
