Frequently Asked Questions View all FAQs
How do you order the correct replacement parts?

Before ordering replacement parts, make sure you have the fan model and serial number.

Where can I find instructions to wire a motor on my fan?

The nameplate of the motor includes a wiring diagram. Wiring diagrams can also be found beneath the motor image in our Buy Parts section. Simply click the wiring diagram icon to view it.

Can I install a thermostat?

Yes, but only if the thermostat has a simple on/off operation. Please note: if the thermostat varies the amount of voltage delivered, it will damage the motor and void the warranty.

Can I install my whole house fan vertically?

Comfort Cooler (CC) series whole-house fans may be mounted vertically, however, the AS and CSS shutters will not function properly in the vertical position. We do not carry a ceiling shutter for vertical installation. Vertical installation instructions.

JD Series Direct Drive Upblast Exhaust Fans

QUALITYProducts.
SINCE 1948.

JD Series Direct Drive Upblast Exhaust Fans

Since 1948, Triangle Engineering has delivered industrial ventilation solutions, backed by over 70 years of innovation. The JD Series Direct Drive Upblast Roof Exhaust Fan pairs an all-welded steel housing with a direct-drive motor and high-efficiency cast aluminum airfoil propellers. Engineered for commercial or industrial settings, these fans range from 24″ to 72″ in diameter and standard motor options up to 25 HP, ensuring robust performance, minimal maintenance, and reliable roof-mounted ventilation.

Their direct-drive configuration reduces upkeep while the rugged construction resists corrosion and handles high static pressures. From manufacturing to power and utility environments, these upblast exhaust fans excel under demanding conditions.

Optional upgrades for high-temperature use or specialized materials further extend their capabilities, making JD Series fans a dependable choice for challenging industrial applications.

  • All-Welded Steel Construction
Withstands harsh industrial conditions and ensures long-term durability.
  • Direct-Drive Configuration
Eliminates belts and pulleys, simplifying maintenance and improving energy efficiency.
  • High-Efficiency Airfoil Propellers
Cast aluminum, non-overloading airfoil blades move air effectively with minimal noise or turbulence. Conventional flat blades cause excessive air turbulence which results in motor overloads and poor acoustic performance.
  • Multiple Motor Options
Standard (Totally Enclosed, Hazardous Location) and non-standard (Chemical Duty, 50 Hz, Arctic Duty, IEEE 841, ECM) configurations to match diverse environments.
  • Rugged Weather Protection
Heavy-gauge windband, curb base, and reinforced components for reliable performance in any climate.
  • Proven Heritage
Backed by more than 70 years of Triangle Engineering’s innovation and expertise.

  • Horsepower: Up to 25 HP (contact us for higher horsepower requirements)

Standard Motor Types, Voltages & Controls

  • Standard Motor Options: Totally Enclosed (TE), Hazardous Location (HL)
  • Non-Standard: Chemical Duty, 50 Hz, Arctic Duty, High Ambient, IEEE 841, Electronically Commutated (ECM), etc.
  • Standard Voltages:
    • Single-Phase: 115V, 230V
    • Three-Phase: 230V, 460V
    • (Additional options: 277V, 208V, 415V, 575V)
  • Motor Control: Consult factory for motor compatibility with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s)

Operating Range

  • Temperature: Handles up to 110°F (contact us for higher-temp motors)
  • Static Pressure: Refer to performance tables for model-specific capabilities

Construction & Finish

  • Housing: Heavy-gauge, all-welded steel for structural integrity
  • Polyester Powder Coat Finish: Resists corrosion, extends product life
  • External Bracing: Reinforces larger units to prevent sagging and vibration
  • Internal Bracing: Adds extra structural support
  • Rain Channel: Directs rainwater away from the fan onto the roof

Additional Construction Details

  • Curb Base: Heavy-gauge galvanized sheet steel, all-welded for long, maintenance-free service
  • Windband: Galvanized steel with formed reinforcing ribs, braced to protect against weather and crosswinds
  • Throat: Deep venturi-type orifice riveted to a galvanized steel inner throat for quieter, more efficient operation
  • Butterfly Dampers: Automatically open when powered on and close via gravity to prevent backdrafts; bumper stops aid closure
  • Damper Bearings: Sintered bronze-oil bushings on rustproof rods, located outside the airstream for friction-free operation
  • Neoprene Bumper: Creates a tight damper seal, prevents freezing in cold conditions, and dampens noise as lids close
  • Lifting Lugs: Facilitate easier rigging and safer rooftop installation

Mounting & Installation

  • Motor in Airstream: Simplifies servicing and inspection
  • Integral Butterfly Dampers: Minimize energy loss by reducing backdrafts when fan is off

Explore a range of add-ons and design modifications to further enhance functionality, reliability, and ease of maintenance. Whether you need additional weatherproofing, improved service access, or robust safety features, our suite of accessories ensures the JD Series meets the unique demands of your industrial environment.

  • Disconnect Switch: UL-listed, prewired switch for on-site safety
  • Magnetic Latches: Help prevent butterfly damper uplift due to high winds
  • VFD Ready: Premium Efficiency Inverter-Rated Motor
  • Shaft Grounding: Minimizes bearing wear from stray electrical current
